Study: 74% of Russian gamers like to read books
The All-Russian Reading Day was held on October 9. On this occasion, Astrum Entertainment asked more than 2,300 gamers what they read and games based on which books they would like to see.
According to the study, 74% of the surveyed gamers like to read books, 63% listen to audiobooks.
49% of respondents buy books in stores, 27% purchase them from online libraries and services, 21% read books by subscription, 16% borrow books from friends and relatives, 13% use streaming services, 11% go to regular libraries.
The favorite genre of the majority of respondents (68%) is fiction. 32% of the gamers surveyed did not name a specific genre, but said they preferred to read fiction. 16% of the surveyed gamers replied that they most often read educational books.
The most popular writer among respondents is Stephen King. Also in the top were the Strugatsky brothers, Sergei Lukyanenko, Andrzej Sapkovsky, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Viktor Pelevin, Boris Akunin and Terry Pratchett.
Respondents are most looking forward to games based on books by Stephen King, books by Sergei Lukyanenko, "1984" by George Orwell and "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov.
▪️Respondents want more new books on games. For example, Atomic Heart, Fallout, Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, Evil Dead, Half-Life and Elden Ring.
