Sensor Tower: in 11 years, mobile puzzles have earned $42 billion

Puzzles are one of the most popular genres of mobile games. Sensor Tower analysts looked at what results it has achieved over the past 11 years* and listed the most successful subgenres.

The total revenue of puzzles amounted to $42 billion, and their total downloads exceeded 50 billion.

▪️The highest—grossing and downloadable puzzle subgenre is Swap. It includes games in which you need to swap the same neighboring elements in order to create a figure from two or more parts. Over 11 years, he earned approximately $25.6 billion (61% of all revenue) and collected 8 billion downloads (16% of all downloads).

Top 3 games in this subgenre both by revenue and downloads — Candy Crush Saga, Gardenscapes and Homescapes.

The collapse games became the second most popular subgenre. They accounted for $4.2 billion (10%). But in the list of the most downloaded subgenres, it took only 14th place with 1.5 billion downloads (3%).

Top 3 collapse games in terms of revenue — Toon Blast, Toy Blast and Pet Rescue Saga.

The third place in the box office was taken by the subgenre of chain puzzles, in which the player must select a chain of identical elements so that it disappears from the playing field. His income for 11 years is $2.5 billion (6%). The number of downloads is about 500 million (1%).
