Educational tours from Assassin's Creed games to be used across 52 schools in UK
Ubisoft is stepping up its educational partnership with non-profit program Digital Schoolhouse. The publisher is expanding its Discovery Tour, an educational platform allowing users to explore the historical settings of various Assassin’s Creed games.
Right now, Discovery Tour features maps from Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. These maps, which lack the gameplay of the actual titles, explore Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece, respectively. Starting today, Ubisoft will also offer Discovery Tour: Viking Age, which will expose users to the historical setting from Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
“Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, with the goal of putting narrative and storytelling at the heart of the experience, players will be able to step into the shoes of Viking and Anglo-Saxon characters from the time while living out their stories and adventures and interacting with the world around them. Designed in close collaboration with historians and archaeologists, this non-violent, interactive learning experience is an engaging deep dive into the Viking Age in ninth-century Norway and England,” the press release reads.
52 schools across the UK will receive more than 5000 free PC codes from Ubisoft to use the tours as part of the lessons on history, art, and culture.
“Discovery Tour is a great example of how videogames can be used as viable and impactful education tools, which engage students through a medium they can best relate to, in today’s digital age,” said Ubisoft UK marketing director Mark Slaughter.
