The analytics company data.ai released a report on the mobile market in MENA countries (Middle East and North Africa) for 2022. We've highlighted the key points below.
▪️Last year, residents of the MENA countries downloaded mobile games and apps 13.8 billion times, an increase of 45.7% compared to 2021.
▪️Hyper-casual games once again garnered more downloads than any other games. In 2022, they accounted for 2.6 billion downloads—a year-over-year increase of 28.4%. Following them were simulation games (1.5 billion), action games (881.9 million), children's games (784.5 million), and racing games (390.7 million).
▪️Subway Surfers topped the download charts in seven countries and ranked second in two others. Other highly downloaded games in the region included Ludo King, Yalla Ludo, Stumble Guys, Roblox, PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, and Snake.io.
▪️In 2022, residents of the MENA countries spent 10.3% more on mobile games and apps compared to 2021—a total of $3.1 billion.
▪️The top 5 highest-grossing game genres were: Strategy ($399.2 million), Shooter ($280.4 million), Casino ($218.1 million), RPG ($184.3 million), and Board games ($173.7 million).
▪️Gamers spent the most money on Candy Crush Saga, PUBG Mobile, Evony, Free Fire, Tarbi3ah Baloot, Coin Master, and Royal Match.
