Rovio faces federal lawsuit for ‘stalking’ kids and collecting their personal data in Angry Birds
New Mexico has filed a federal lawsuit against Rovio Entertainment. The company is accused of collecting children’s personal information in Angry Birds.
The lawsuit was filed by New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas, KOB News 4 reports. He said that Rovio should stop “stalking” children in its popular mobile games.
“Technology companies are not allowed to gather sensitive information pertaining to children under the age of 13, and we believe that this company has not only been gathering information, but they have been doing this without the legal consent of parents and more importantly they have been profiting off this very important data,” Balderas said.
According to the lawsuit, Rovio uses personal data collected in Angry Birds to increase profit by transferring it to marketing companies. The state is also concerned that the studio can obtain sensitive information like kids’ names and addresses.
