Newzoo: esports to generate less than expected in 2020 due to coronavirus
Newzoo has adjusted its esports forecast for 2020 to reflect the impact of the coronavirus pandemic: this year, many esports events have been delayed, cancelled or made digital-only.
According to a new estimate, the market will generate $1.059 billion in 2020 instead of the previously forecast $1.1 billion.
Decline is expected across almost all esports revenue channels. Digital revenue stream, however, will remain unaffected, while streaming revenues may even be higher than previously forecast.
Analysts have also made a slight upward adjustment in their forecast for 2023. The segment’s revenue for this year, according to an early estimate, was to reach $1.556 billion. Now, analysts believe that it will reach $1.598 billion.
