CD Projekt Red switches to remote work

CD Projekt Red released an update on how the company is handling the situation around the coronavirus pandemic. Effective yesterday, the makers of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 now work remotely for as long as necessary.

To ensure that this does not affect their efforts towards launching Cyberpunk 2077 in September, CD Projekt Red spent the last week upgrading its equipment and infrastructure.

GOG.com, CD Projekt Red’s sister company, transitioned to remote work too, the news also conveyed via Twitter. While the team admits the novelty of this approach, it doesn’t expect any changes in the day-to-day operation of its digital marketplace.

While CD Projekt Red, which is currently Europe’s second-largest video game company, is confident that  Cyberpunk 2077 will come out as planned, we’ll just have to wait and see. Kotaku’s Jason Schreier suggests that delays are likely for all releases planned for April and later.

“We’ll have to see whether game devs can still get everything done remotely. One bigger issue will be disc manufacturing plants. For games further out, ESRB ratings may be hard to come by. And many other logistical issues along the way,” adds Schreier on Twitter.

Last week, Rockstar “implemented work from home policies” across all of its structures. They also rolled out solutions for remote work, hoping it would keep any disruptions in normal operation to a minimum.
