Study: a quarter of Russian parents want their children to work in the gaming industry
VK Play and ResearchMe decided to find out how Russian parents feel about their children’s passion for video games. It turned out that 63% do not think anything bad about it, and 25% would even like their child to associate a career with video games.
A total of 1,953 people participated in the survey.
▪70% of parents allow their children to play video games.
33% of respondents admitted that they would like their children to become developers. Another 8% of people would prefer the profession of a 3D fashion designer and a game designer for them.
Among the main arguments for working in game development are high salaries (48%), the opportunity to express oneself creatively (46%), the opportunity to create a unique technological product (45%) and work in a prestigious company (36%).
▪25% of parents believe that gaming specialists can earn 100-200 thousand rubles a month.
▪64% of parents are “for” or “not against” that game disciplines appear in the school curriculum: game development and esports. A third of the respondents said that these subjects should be made mandatory at all.
▪32% of parents do not object to their children attending paid additional courses related to video games.
