Sensor Tower: Call of Duty: Mobile revenue exceeds $1.5 billion

Two and a half years ago Activision Blizzard released a mobile version of Call of Duty. Over the past time, gamers have spent over $1.5 billion in it. This allowed Call of Duty: Mobile to become the third highest-grossing mobile shooter in 2021.

Such data is shared by the analytical company Sensor Tower.

  • Analysts have not reported how much Call of Duty: Mobile has earned every year since its release (it took place in October 2019). However, it was noted that in 2021, gamers spent more in the game than ever before. Compared to 2020, their spending increased by 45%.
  • One of the key drivers is the launch of Call of Duty: Mobile in China in December 2020. In 2021, the game earned $104.5 million in the Chinese App Store alone.
  • Most of all for the entire existence of Call of Duty: Mobile earned in the USA — $647 million (43%). Japan and China are next.
  • By the end of 2021, Call of Duty: Mobile took 14th place in the ranking of the highest-grossing mobile games. It also ranked third in revenue among mobile shooters, second only to PUBG Mobile and Free Fire.
  • Separately, Sensor Tower spoke about the situation in the genre of mobile shooters. According to analysts, since the release of Call of Duty: Mobile, user spending in this genre has been steadily growing. If in 2019 gamers spent $ 3.8 billion in shooters, then in 2020 — already $ 5.7 billion. In 2021, this figure reached $6.3 billion.

Recall that Call of Duty: Mobile quickly began to demonstrate success. In its debut year, its revenue was $480 million, and downloads exceeded the 300 million milestone.

Last October, Activision Blizzard announced the purchase of the Spanish studio Digital Legends, which, together with other studios of the company, is now working on a new mobile game in the Call of Duty universe.
