Newzoo: by the end of the year, the audience of esports in Europe will grow to 92 million people

Newzoo together with PayPal conducted a study of the European esports market. It is expected that the number of women in the industry will continue to grow, and the total audience of esports will exceed 90 million people by the end of the year.

Analysts note that the audience is divided into two categories. 33 million people are esports fans who watch more than one match a month. There are much more casual viewers — 59 million people.

General figuresby the end of the year, the esports industry will generate $973.9 million.

Purchasing behavior

58% of cyber sports fans buy industry-related products, while among casual viewers the share of such people is 33%;

  • women spend more on the purchase of esports-related products than men (48% vs. 46%);
  • if men prefer in-game purchases like cosmetic items, then women are more willing to buy merchandise;
  • 45% of esports fans spend money on goods in this industry on other people — whether they are partners, children or friends.
