The UK gaming market has grown to $7.43 billion
Spending by British players on video games rose to $7.43 billion last year. This is a record for the industry in the UK, according to UKIE analysts. In 2017, the turnover of the video game industry in the country was 10% lower.
In the whole country, there is a decrease in revenue from physical retail. But digital copies of games bring more and more money. Thanks to this, the software market turnover has reached a record high.
Game Segment
- Revenue from games in 2018 reached $5.21 billion, which is 10.3% more in annual terms. Of these, mobile games earned $1.52 billion.
- Digital sales rose to $2.62 billion dollars. This is 20.3% higher than in 2017.
- Physical sales, on the contrary, fell by 2.6%. They amounted to $1 billion, Gamasutra writes.
- The income from used titles decreased significantly – by 30.9%. The amount of revenue from such games reached $88.6 million.
Gaming Equipment Segment
- The gaming equipment market in the UK amounted to $2.05 billion.
- Console sales in the country rose to $914.8 million. This is 6.5% more in annual terms.
- Personal computer revenue totaled almost $580 million.
- Peripherals and accessories generated revenue of $462.6 million.
- But the revenue of VR headsets has seriously fallen – by 21%. Virtual reality devices earned $93.8 million.
