The global gaming market will earn $137.9 billion in 2018
Newzoo has published a forecast for the games market for this year. The company’s experts believe that the revenue from the games by the end of 2018 will amount to $ 137.9 billion. This is 13.3% more than the industry earned last year.
Most of the market’s revenue will come from digital distribution. Of this amount, games distributed in retail will earn only 9% or $12.4 billion.
The main driver of income growth is still mobile. Revenues from it will rise by 25.5% to $70.3 billion. The latter is highlighted in Newzoo. If their forecast comes true, mobile games will earn more than 50% of all market money for the first time in the history of the industry.
The report claims that mobile gaming “does not significantly cannibalize the revenue of PC and console games.” But the company records the presence of the very fact of the market eating away.
China will remain the largest regional segment of the market both in terms of money and the number of players. It will account for more than a quarter of all earnings of the gaming industry. In total, he will earn $37.9 billion.
In general, the Asia-Pacific region is now the most profitable and the fastest growing. By the end of the year, $71.4 billion or 52% of all gaming earnings will be spent on its territories. This is 17% more than a year earlier.
Such rates are explained by the growing number of smartphone users in the developing countries of Southeast Asia, as well as the willingness to spend money on games from residents of more prosperous countries – China and Japan.
