The volume of the games market will be $108.9 billion in 2017
In a recent report on the state of the gaming market in the world, Newzoo announced that it will earn $108.9 billion for the current year. This is 7.7% more than a year earlier.
Most of the money – 42% – this year will go to the mobile segment. He is not only the leader in cash, but also in the player base: 2.1 billion people play mobile (mainly on smartphones).
The segment will continue to grow rapidly. Newzoo predicts a 22% increase in the smartphone games segment and a 10% increase in the tablet games segment.
At the same time, both the PC market for native and browser games is expected to fall by 1.3% and 9.3%, respectively. Analysts attribute the first to a decrease in the revenues of public PC gaming companies in the West and East back in 2016, and the second to the ongoing migration of social players to mobile for several years.
In the report, Newzoo also published the Top 20 countries and regions by earnings. Russia ranks 11th in it. It is predicted that by the end of this year the volume of its market will be $ 1.4 billion.
North America, where Newzoo counted 180 million gamers, will account for 24.8% of all money from the market – $27 billion. Twenty-five of them will be earned by the United States.
Very good growth will show Latin America – 13.9%. That’s just with a large number of gamers – 205.6 million – it will account for only 4.1% of the global earnings of the industry. The leaders in the region are Mexico and Brazil.
Scandinavia and Western Europe together will earn $18.8 billion. This is almost 5% more than a year earlier. 405 million people live in these countries, 187 million of them play.
Eastern Europe and the former CIS countries will be able to boast a total revenue of $3.4 billion by the end of the year. Most of it will fall on Russia. Second place for Poland – $439 million.
The countries of the Middle East and Africa will earn more than Eastern Europe for the first time. This will contribute to a 25% increase in the region’s revenue and 336 million gamers. The top player here is Turkey with $774 million.
47.1% of all the money earned by the gaming industry will be in the Asia-Pacific region – $51.2 billion. Each of the Top 5 most earning countries in the region is a billionaire.
