The US gaming market grew by 10% thanks to the Nintendo Switch
The American games market in April increased by 10% to $636 million compared to last year thanks to sales of the Nintendo Switch console and games for it.
This is evidenced by the data of the monthly research of the analytical company NPD Group.
Game console sales in April increased by 37% and amounted to $195 million, game sales increased by 6% and generated $304 million. Component sales also rose 4% and brought in $126 million.
“The industry is showing steady two-month growth for the first time since November 2015. Nintendo Switch provides console sales, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Persona 5 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild titles boost game sales,” said NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella.
In April, projects for the Nintendo Switch were released by 7 different publishers at once, including Warner Bros. Interactive, Sega, Konami, Nicalis, Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe topped the April game sales chart (by the number of copies sold) in the United States and became the best-selling racing game on the American market, and the Persona 5 role-playing game showed the best sales start in the history of the Persona franchise.
The highest-grossing games of the American video game market in April were two Ubisoft projects: Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands and For Honor.
