The Japanese mobile games market earns more than $9 billion a year
Games for smartphones and tablets earn from $9.3 billion to $9.5 billion a year in Japan.
Such figures were shared by analyst Serkan Toto in his post with reference to recently published reports of two organizations – Mobile Content Forum (MCF) and Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA).
According to MCF, in 2015, in the Land of the Rising Sun, application games (those that are downloaded from stores) and browser games for mobile devices (for DeNA and GREE, this is still the main business) earned $9.5 billion. This is $600 million more than a year earlier.
By the way, games for regular cell phones in Japan earned $169 million during the reporting period. This is slightly less than the entire Russian mobile games market earned in the same period ($174 million).
According to CESA, the Japanese market earned a little less on mobile games last year – $9.3 billion. This is the total amount from the implementation of applications exclusively (excluding browser games for smartphones and tablets).
50.3% of the market was on iOS. The rest is on Android.
30.5% of the money earned from games on iOS and 37.3% on Android falls on RPG projects.
CESA also estimated the US mobile games market at $8.6 billion, and the Chinese (with iOS only) at $3.7 billion. Thus, it turns out that Japan, according to this organization, is the largest mobile games market in the world.
