App Annie: the three main mobile trends of 2015
On the eve of the New Year holidays, App Annie sums up the results of the year. The mobile analytics company spoke about the main industry trends in 2015.
According to App Annie experts, the industry in the outgoing year was determined by several leading trends.
Stability at the platform level. Before that, the balance of power among the two main players in the industry, iOS and Google Play, was constantly changing. In 2015, the situation leveled off. Google Play took the leading position in downloads, and iOS got a stable lead in revenue.
Evolution of monetization methods. The market is still dominated by IAP. However, there are new ways. Some of them are well-forgotten old ones. This includes, for example, subscribing to games and apps. However, others – motivated advertising, for example – became widely known just in 2015.
New devices and new platforms. In the outgoing year, the Apple Watch and a new (claimed as a gaming) console from Apple with access to the App Store appeared in the access. Google started selling smart watches a little earlier, at the end of 2014. All together, it sets an interesting trend: mobile applications have begun to go beyond smartphones and tablets directly. This means that the developers have new frontiers that have not yet been conquered.
