Media: Ubisoft has formed a team to integrate generative AI into games
Recently, it was noticed online that Ubisoft registered a trademark for "Motherbrain." As reported by journalist and insider Tom Henderson, this is the name of a new internal structure that will focus on generative artificial intelligence.

Henderson reviewed a letter to Ubisoft employees stating that the team will be developing AI solutions for gameplay generation, which will be the "foundation" for all the company’s studios. Although the letter did not disclose further details, the insider's sources claim that Ubisoft plans to integrate Motherbrain technologies into as many games as possible.
It is reported that Ubisoft considers the Motherbrain team to be as significant as the company's "creative houses," which are major divisions that manage game franchises.
Henderson's sources added that veteran Ubisoft employee Xavier Manzanares has been appointed head of Motherbrain. He has been with the company for over two decades and once served as the lead producer of the Mario + Rabbids series, but in recent years he has been responsible for the development of generative AI.
It should be noted that Ubisoft has long been experimenting with AI. For instance, in 2024, they showcased their progress on the NEO NPC neural network, which could potentially allow gamers to have meaningful conversations with non-playable characters. Last fall, they introduced Teammates, a project aimed at creating AI companions in games. Given all this, the launch of a full-fledged structure within the company for AI development was an anticipated move.
