The independent development team, Chequered Ink, has released a comprehensive pack containing 10,000 game assets priced at $10. This initiative aims to provide developers with resources that deter them from relying on artificial intelligence.
Chequered Ink, a United Kingdom-based company that specializes in creating fonts, game assets, and indie games, has unveiled a collection of 10,000 game assets, designed specifically to offer developers an alternative to artificial intelligence.
This extensive package includes over 9000 graphics suitable for platformers, RPGs, puzzles, and board games, complemented by more than 700 sound effects. The company stated that this collection aims to help developers save time and expenses, thereby reducing reliance on AI for game creation.
The team highlighted, "AI usage, especially for generating images and audio, is increasing energy consumption, raising costs, and contributing to carbon emissions." All assets are confirmed to be 100% crafted by humans. "Many popular AI models are trained on copyrighted material without permission," they added.
"Stories are always more compelling when they are handcrafted by people, even if teams rely on pre-existing resources to complete their projects," the team emphasized.
The asset collection is priced at $20, but a special launch discount currently reduces the price to $10. Developers are free to utilize these assets for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, with or without credit. However, the assets cannot be sold or redistributed unaltered.
According to the duo behind Chequered Ink, "The diverse genres and styles included in the asset pack provide developers with significant creative flexibility. The straightforward, clean design of the HD assets ensures they are easy to customize and expand for larger projects."
"This is merely the beginning. We are committed to continually creating handcrafted graphics and sound elements for game developers, enabling them to thrive without resorting to generative AI," the company concluded.
