Dan Houser, known for co-founding Rockstar Games and currently leading Absurd Ventures, has shared his perspective on AI in the gaming industry. During an appearance on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch to discuss his latest book, "A Better Paradise," Houser revealed that while they are exploring AI, its current capabilities seem limited compared to the promises made by tech companies.

He highlighted a potential dichotomy in the gaming world, where innovation might be superseded by profit-driven motives, stating, "Commercial endeavors in art always risk being overshadowed by monetary interests."

Houser spoke candidly about the immense wealth and influence acquired by tech moguls, commenting, "These individuals accrue vast riches and power, potentially unmatched in history. Initially, their goals cater to improving lives, yet the pursuit of wealth often leads to ethical dilemmas."

Discussing ongoing projects at Absurd Ventures, Houser noted that while they are integrating AI in their narratives, the technology still falls short in addressing all challenges. He expressed skepticism, suggesting that while some AI proponents claim wide-ranging capabilities, much remains aspirational. "Computers already handle various processes, and the current portrayal of AI might be driven more by business motives than actual advancements," he remarked.

Presently, Absurd Ventures is developing multiple projects, including live-action and video game content, with significant time needed before their completion.

Meanwhile, a recent incident involving Ubisoft highlights the challenges and pitfalls of AI in the industry. It was disclosed that an AI-generated image was inadvertently included in the release version of Anno 117: Pax Romana.
