The head of KRAFTON may have been looking for a way to avoid payments to the creators of Subnautica using ChatGPT

This is the assertion made by the fired executives of the studio Unknown Worlds.

Former Subnautica developers Charlie Cleveland, Ted Gill, and Max McGuire have provided the court with documents containing new details about their conflict with KRAFTON. Specifically, they revealed that the CEO of the South Korean company, Changhan Kim, was personally interested in not paying the promised $250 million to them.

According to the fired developers, Kim feared that after the payments, KRAFTON would find itself in a disadvantageous financial position, and he would be perceived as a “pushover.” They suggested that the top manager’s reputation would suffer because the deal he facilitated might harm the company. This was compounded by the fact that Kim’s contract was expiring, and such a scenario could cost him his job.

If the developers are to be believed, initially KRAFTON tried to persuade them to delay the release of Subnautica 2, but without success. Then the company created a secret task force named “Project X,” which included Kim and several other managers. They reportedly discussed ways to significantly reduce the payment size and even considered whether it would be simpler to seize control over Unknown Worlds.

At some point, according to court documents, Kim sought advice from ChatGPT, but it explained that avoiding the payments was very difficult.

Representatives from KRAFTON denied the allegations made by the dismissed executives of Unknown Worlds in comments to the media.
