Ubisoft acknowledges that an AI-generated image "slipped through our review process" in Anno 117: Pax Romana
Ubisoft has announced its intention to remove an image generated by AI from its game, Anno 117: Pax Romana, acknowledging it bypassed their review procedures.
According to Kotaku, players identified several inconsistencies in the image that indicated it was machine-generated, such as odd representations of humans and landscapes. The complete image can be seen here.
In reaction to this detection, Ubisoft has released a modified version and explained that Anno 117 is developed by the largest group of artists to work on the series so far. AI tools were used during the game's development for various activities including iterations and exploration.
An Ubisoft representative mentioned, "The current image was an unintended placeholder that went unexamined in our review. The attached final version will replace it with the 1.3 update."
They further noted that "for Anno 117: Pax Romana, our most ambitious Anno title to date, we've enlisted the largest artist team in the series and utilized AI for development tasks. The final product will highlight the team’s skills, creativity, and artistic vision."
On the Steam platform, Ubisoft clearly acknowledges the use of AI in the game's development, contrasting with The Alters, which didn't initially inform players about AI placeholder images. They are yet to address allegations regarding AI-generated content in its German-language localization, as mentioned here.
