Nintendo has denied rumors about lobbying for restrictions on generative AI in Japan

Recently, Japanese House of Representatives member Satoshi Asano claimed that Nintendo is trying to persuade the country’s authorities to introduce restrictions related to the use of generative artificial intelligence. According to the company itself, this is untrue.

Nintendo denies lobbying for restrictions against generative AI

Nintendo released a denial on their official X account. In their post, they stated that they had not contacted the Japanese government regarding this matter.

Nintendo also emphasized that they fight against the infringement of their copyrights regardless of whether malicious actors have used generative AI in their works. Apparently, they do not need to lobby for restrictions on such technologies for this purpose.

After Nintendo’s denial, Asano apologized to the company and retracted his statement. He admitted that he did not initially verify the information well enough, but now understands that there was indeed no lobbying.
