Update, September 23, 2025: A recent hotfix has been launched by Aspyr for the Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered Patch 2 to resolve issues linked to AI-generated content.

Aspyr announced the release of this update, highlighting the intention to remove unauthorized AI use in a Support post on September 20, 2025, as noted by Time Extension.

"All AI voiceover content has been removed while maintaining prior improvements."

The company apologized for any inconvenience caused and encouraged users to contact their support for further assistance.

Original story, September 11, 2025: Françoise Cadol, known for voicing Lara Croft in several Tomb Raider games, has formally accused the publisher, Aspyr, of using AI to mimic her voice in the remastered editions of Tomb Raider 4-6, allegedly without her permission.

During an interview with the French outlet Le Parisien, Cadol explained that fans initially noticed the similarity between the newly used voice and her original recordings.

"I consider them the guardians of the voices," Cadol remarked.

Fans had detected that the voice giving gameplay instructions in the remastered games did not match hers, leading to significant fan discontent.

The controversy arose following the Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered Patch 2, launched on August 14, 2025, which restored several original lines but allegedly used AI to replicate Cadol’s voice.

Attorney Jonathan Elkaim, representing Cadol, specializing in intellectual property and AI, emphasized the AI-generated voice’s distinctive "metallic impact" and lack of "intonation."

Elkaim described it as a misuse of Cadol’s voice for synthetic creation and accused Aspyr of misleading consumers.

Cadol viewed the AI replication as a significant "betrayal" and "disrespect" to her audience.

Formal notice has been submitted to Aspyr by Cadol and Elkaim, demanding withdrawal of the remaster and an accounting of sold copies.

Elkaim mentioned the necessity for Aspyr to react swiftly to cease sales.

GamesIndustry.biz has approached Aspyr for their comments on this situation.
