A French actor who has previously portrayed Lara Croft has issued a formal notice to Aspyr, alleging that the company used an AI-generated version of her voice in the remastered Tomb Raider games.

Françoise Cadol, who voiced Lara Croft in French for several titles in the Tomb Raider franchise, has filed a formal complaint with Aspyr. She alleges that her voice was duplicated using AI in the remastered editions of Tomb Raider 4 through 6 without her permission.
In a conversation with Le Parisien on September 10, 2025, Cadol, who also dubbed Angelina Jolie's character in the Tomb Raider movies, notes that vigilant fans were the first to notice the likeness between her historical game voice and the one used in the remastered versions.
She described these fans as "guardians of the voices."
Cadol explained that purchasers of the game collection quickly identified the discrepancy in Lara Croft’s voice, leading to significant community backlash.
According to fans, the controversy surfaced following the release of Patch 2 for Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered on August 14, 2025, which integrated restored audio lines from the original editions.
It is alleged that instead of having Cadol re-record these lines, Aspyr utilized AI technology to mimic her voice.
Cadol’s lawyer, Jonathan Elkaim, who specializes in intellectual property and AI, argues that the AI-generated voice sounds conspicuously "metallic" and lacks natural "intonation."
He mentions that only the actress's original voice could have been used to generate this artificial copy.
Elkaim claims that Aspyr has misled consumers and that the unauthorized voice replication is a profound "betrayal" and disrespect to the fan community.
"Transparency with the affected public that it wasn’t Cadol's authentic voice would have been appropriate," Elkaim stated to Le Parisien.
The formal notice issued by Elkaim and Cadol calls upon Aspyr to withdraw the released compilation and provide sales documentation.
"Aspyr has been notified; they need to address this promptly to halt further sales," Elkaim conveyed.
GamesIndustry.biz has sought a response from Aspyr regarding this issue.
