Sony has filed new patents for an AI system designed to anticipate player behavior and minimize online gaming lag

Sony has filed a series of patents for innovative systems, among them a method employing artificial intelligence to predict gamer actions and another that enhances the realism of DualSense controllers for weapon simulation.

The initial patent outlines the use of AI technology to forecast player moves, aiming to minimize gaming lag. Sony is researching the effectiveness of AI in anticipating player behavior by analyzing and storing player movements with a camera.

Additional patents reveal plans to use AI for mimicking players in efforts to detect online cheating, and to deliver in-game support by gauging player emotions through microphone and controller inputs.

According to Gamerant, another patent, filed last summer and only recently unveiled, proposes a trigger attachment meant to enhance the authenticity of gunplay. Illustrations show the controller being held sideways, allowing aiming between the R1 and R2 buttons.

In December, Electronic Arts introduced 23 new patents to its open-access library of accessibility solutions, featuring patents for features like photosensitivity evaluation plugins and advanced speech recognition, alongside technology for converting text into expressive spoken audio.
