Creators on Itch.io are now required to disclose if their projects incorporate generative AI
Creators on Itch.io must now disclose the use of generative AI in their projects.
According to a recent announcement, Itch.io introduced a new section called "generative AI disclosure." This requires developers to specify which parts of their work, such as visuals, audio, writing, and software, incorporate AI technology.
Projects identified as containing AI-driven components will receive an "AI Generated" label, alongside specific tags like "AI Generated Graphics" or "AI Generated Sounds," while those without AI elements will carry a "No AI" label.
The platform emphasizes that this measure is intended to "ensure that buyers understand the source of the materials they purchase."
A grace period will allow developers some time to update their content accordingly. After this, Itch.io will rely on user feedback to spot creators not complying voluntarily. To aid this process, a bulk tagging feature is now available.
"Assets using generative AI, even if subsequently modified, must be tagged appropriately, or they will not appear in our browse pages," added Itch.io.
