Bet on AI, no The Sims 5, in five years EA's gaming audience will exceed a billion people — key highlights from EA's investor presentation

On September 17, 2024, Electronic Arts (EA) held a large-scale event for investors, where it revealed its future plans. We've highlighted the company's key points.

The Sims 4

  • EA's three strategic directions include expanding the online gaming community, engaging with the community "in games, around them and beyond," and developing interactive blockbusters.
  • EA aims to have over a billion people worldwide playing its games in five years.
  • EA confirmed that it is heavily invested in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies—it is currently involved in over 100 AI projects.
  • EA showcased an experimental generative AI to investors, "Imagination to Creation," which can create game locations, characters, and other content using text prompts.

  • The company plans to actively develop The Sims. It aims to more than double the franchise's net revenue over the next five years.
  • However, EA does not intend to release The Sims 5 [the company also confirmed this in an interview with Variety. — Ed. note]. A project codenamed Project Rene is not the fifth installment in the series but a multiplayer expansion for The Sims 4. EA will later launch The Sims Labs, a laboratory where players can create their own content. Additionally, EA announced a film based on The Sims, to be produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
  • The company wants to make EA SPORTS the most profitable sports gaming brand in the world. Currently, the total audience for games under this brand exceeds 265 million people.
  • EA expects the revenue from its American football games (EA Sports College Football and Madden NFL) to exceed $1 billion in the fiscal year 2025 (April 2024 – March 2025).
  • Throughout their existence, EA's Star Wars universe games have earned over $5 billion in total. The overall audience for the Star Wars Jedi series is 40 million people. EA is currently working with Respawn Entertainment on the third and final part of Star Wars Jedi.
