Media: At least one cosmetic item in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was created using AI
Activision is actively experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, according to Wired. The publication reports that the company has already started selling AI-generated "cosmetics" in games.
Yokai’s Wrath
According to Wired, AI was used at least for a cosmetic set in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III called Yokai’s Wrath, which went on sale in December 2023. The specific item or items in the set that were partially AI-generated are not specified. There are no indications in the game itself about the use of AI in creating the "cosmetics."
It is reported that Activision approved the use of the chatbot ChatGPT and generative AI for working on concept art for games and marketing materials in July of last year. At that time, management assured artists that such technologies would only be applied during the concept stage and definitely would not be used in creating game assets.
Activision did not comment on the Wired article.
