Oculus has unveiled its new VR headset - Oculus Rift S

At GDC 2019, Oculus unveiled its new virtual reality helmet. The model is called Oculus Rift S.

Oculus Rift S is equipped with:

  • LCD screens with a larger viewing angle and higher resolution: 1280×740 for each eye;
  • built-in Ocukus Insight motion tracking system with five cameras;
  • Passthrough+ system with external security cameras. Thanks to them, you can limit the virtual space so as not to stumble upon real obstacles (for example, furniture) during the game;
  • modified Touch motion controllers and a built-in audio system, as in the Rift.

The refresh rate in the Rift S is 80 Hz (this is 10 Hz lower than that of the Rift). Despite a number of differences between the Rift S and the original, applications for the latter will be compatible with the new product. Also, a PC with the same system requirements as the Rift will go for it.

Let’s add that Oculus Rift S was developed in partnership with Lenovo. Thanks to this, the helmet turned out to be more comfortable, and its production has significantly accelerated, as noted in Oculus.

The release of the new product will take place this spring. Its cost is $399.
