Veterans from Jagex, Codemasters, and United Label have launched their own publishing company
A new company has emerged in the gaming market. A group of industry veterans has announced the launch of the publishing house The CoLab.
The leadership team of The CoLab includes:
- Darren Newnham — Chief Executive Officer. Prior to The CoLab, he led United Label for three years. Newnham has also held executive positions at The Walt Disney Company, SEGA Europe, and Nexus;
- John Lewis — Creative Director. He previously worked at Codemasters for ten years, where in recent years he was the senior art director for the racing game GRID Legends;
- Mark Faulkner — Head of Production. He has previously worked at Jagex, Bossa Games, PlayFusion, and several other gaming teams.
The CoLab is based in London. The company was formally established last fall, but the decision to officially announce its opening as a publisher was made only now.
The founders of The CoLab stated that they want to “organize a counter-revolution” in the gaming industry. According to them, many companies prioritize market capitalization over gamers' interests, which affects game quality and causes problems for developers. The CoLab intends to establish trustful relationships with studios.
The first games to be published by The CoLab will be the sandbox game Campfire by Team Emprenintes, the cyberpunk shooter DeadWire by Shotgun Anaconda, and the strategy game Counter Clash by Bjenssen.
