GTA V Enhanced peaks at over 187k CCU on Steam, with only 50% of user reviews being positive

Rockstar has released an enhanced version of GTA V for PC, upgrading its visuals and adding various improvements to its 10-year-old megahit. However, reception from Steam users is far from overwhelmingly positive.

Launched as a free update on March 4, the Enhanced Edition of GTA V received “Mixed” rating on Steam, with 50% of the 5,819 reviews being positive.

The main criticisms are aimed at issues with transferring GTA Online profiles to the new version, the 120 FPS cap, Rockstar’s decision to remove online text chat, and the lack of new features and upgrades for the single-player mode. Some players also complain about the new visuals, including ray tracing, calling the changes minor and not worth the updated system requirements.

According to Steam Scout, 41% of all reviews are written in English, followed by Simplified Chinese (19%), Russian (12.5%), Portuguese – Brazil (6.2%), and Turkish (4%).

GTA V Enhanced Edition peaked at 187,059 concurrent players (via SteamDB). This is in line with the base game’s daily peaks of 180k-200k CCU, so the results are not surprising.

The original GTA V has an all-time high of 364.5k CCU on the platform. Rockstar’s other biggest Steam releases by peak concurrent users are Red Dead Redemption 2 (99.9k CCU), Red Dead Online (19.9k CCU), GTA IV (11.6k CCU), and Max Payne 3 (9.5k CCU).

As of December 31, 2024, GTA V has sold 210 million units globally. The lifetime sales of the entire Grand Theft Auto franchise have surpassed 440 million copies. Rockstar is now gearing up for the launch of GTA VI, for which there are still not much officially confirmed details. Take-Two expects to release the game in fall 2025, though the exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
