75 million PlayStation 5 units sold and strong growth in gaming profits — key highlights from Sony's report
Sony Corporation shared its financial results for October-December 2024. We selected key highlights from the report of its gaming division.

- In the quarter, Sony's gaming division earned ¥1.68 trillion ($10.9 billion). Compared to October-December 2023, its revenue rose by 16.5%.
- The majority of the income came from game and gaming content sales, totaling ¥784.1 billion ($590 million, +6.9%). Console sales were second at ¥584.8 billion ($379.6 million, +23.3%). Revenue from gaming services reached ¥176.9 billion ($114.8 million, +28.9%).
- The operating profit of the division amounted to ¥118.1 billion ($766.5 million), increasing by 37.2%.

- Over the three months, Sony sold 9.5 million PlayStation 5 consoles, 1.3 million more than the previous year. As a result, total PlayStation 5 sales have reached 75 million units since the console’s release.
- Quarterly game sales increased to 95.9 million copies, a growth of 6.9%. The share of digital game sales was 74%.
- As of December 31, 2024, the monthly active audience of the PlayStation Network service was 129 million people, 4.8% more than at the end of 2023.
- Sony has raised its forecast for the gaming division for the entire fiscal year 2024 (April 2024 - March 2025). It now expects revenue to reach ¥4.6 trillion ($29.9 billion) instead of the previously forecasted ¥4.49 trillion ($29.1 billion). It anticipates operating profit at ¥380 billion ($2.46 billion).
