Sony has issued an apology for the worldwide disruption that caused the PlayStation Network to be unavailable for almost 24 hours
PlayStation users faced apologies from Sony after the PlayStation Network was inaccessible for nearly a full day during the weekend.
Sony has yet to disclose the root of the issue, describing it merely as "an operational issue" when announcing on February 10 that the problem was fixed. The worldwide disruption affected almost every component of PlayStation services, including account operations, online gaming, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct.
Even though some PS5 users attempted offline gaming, they still encountered problems due to disrupted verification of game licenses and permissions during the downtime.
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds was among the affected as its time-limited open play test coincided with the outage. To make up for this, the second scheduled playtest for February will have an extension of one day.
As compensation, Sony is providing an additional five days of service to current PlayStation Plus members impacted by the service interruption. However, this does not include all affected, as no subscription is needed for online play in free games such as Fortnite and Roblox.
