Sid Meier's Civilization VII was released on Steam with a "mostly negative" rating

On the night of February 6, the new installment of the strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization became available to buyers of premium editions. They were unimpressed. At least on Steam, the game received numerous negative reviews.

At the time of writing, Steam users had left 1,400 reviews for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, with only 39% being positive. As a result, the new release has garnered a "mostly negative" rating.

A significant portion of players is dissatisfied with the state in which Sid Meier’s Civilization VII was launched. The game is described as raw: it lacks content, has balancing issues, and its optimization is far from perfect.

Additionally, many criticized the strategy for its revamped interface. Another common point in the critical reviews is the departure from several familiar elements of the series. For instance, the progression through eras and civilizations now follows a different scenario.

However, other players note that Sid Meier’s Civilization VII has become more dynamic and offers even more opportunities than the previous two installments did at launch.

According to SteamDB, the peak concurrent players for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on Steam reached 43,120. This figure is expected to rise following the full release on February 11.
