Analysts: Microsoft Became the Most Successful Game Publisher on Consoles and PC as of December 2024
In December 2024, users of Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox worldwide spent $465 million on Microsoft games, reports the analytics firm Ampere Analysis. This figure surpasses that of any other publisher's games.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
According to analysts, this result was primarily driven by the popularity of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, released at the beginning of December, also contributed to this success.
Interestingly, more than half of Microsoft's revenue came from PlayStation console owners, who accounted for 64% of user spending on the corporation's games in December 2024.
Electronic Arts secured the second spot in the December publisher ranking for user spending on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. Ampere Analysis estimates gamers spent $366 million on EA's games over the month. The main hit was EA Sports FC 25.
December also proved to be a profitable month for Chinese publishers. For example, Tencent took fifth place in the rankings thanks to the success of Path of Exile 2 and Delta Force. Analysts calculated that Path of Exile 2 alone earned $148 million in December.
Another Chinese publisher in the top ranks is NetEase. A strong start for Marvel Rivals helped the company secure ninth place. According to analysts, by the end of December, the audience for Marvel Rivals reached 29 million people.
