Valve revises Steam guidelines for season passes
Valve has revised its policies concerning season passes, introducing new regulations about when content must be available.
The updated requirements on the Steamworks website state that developers need to provide a set release date for season pass offerings.
If developers are uncertain about when content will be available, they are advised not to sell a season pass on the platform.
Additionally, Valve requires that each content item in a season pass include a detailed list of its features.
Season pass availability can be specified by detailing the release schedule in terms of quarters and years (e.g., January to March 2025), seasons, or exact dates.
Content release dates may only be postponed once, with a permissible delay of up to three months past the initially set date.
Should any season pass content be canceled, customers must receive a refund equivalent to the value of that canceled item.
For any downloadable content delayed by over three months, Valve warns of potential actions, such as removing the season pass from the store, issuing refunds for the delayed DLC, or allowing refunds for the entire season pass.
