Jim Ryan: PlayStation 5 sales have reached 10 million copies

Sony‘s gaming division is not ready to share a financial report yet, but it has already brought data on PlayStation 5 sales. The console sold 10 million units worldwide by July 18 and became Sony’s fastest-selling console.

As noted by the head of PlayStation Jim Ryan (Jim Ryan) in a conversation with the GamesIndustry portal.biz, its predecessor PS4 took a month longer to achieve the same result.

Ryan also added that the involvement of players on the PS5 is twice as high as on the PS4. This applies both to the number of monthly active users and the length of gaming sessions.

According to Ryan, it’s too early to say in which markets there was the greatest demand for the new console. Nevertheless, he highlighted the successful launch of the PS5 in China, which was “as energetic as in the West.”

Right now, the main task for PlayStation is to build up PS5 stocks to meet the demand for the console in all countries.

Ryan also revealed the sales of some games:

  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales — more than 6.5 million copies;
  • Returnal — 560 thousand copies;
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart — 1.1 million copies;
  • MLB: The Show 21 — 2 million copies (but only 4 million users in the game, if you take into account Xbox Game Pass subscribers).

Recall that today the financial results were shared by the gaming division of Microsoft. The company said that its next-generation Xbox Series X and S consoles have also become the best-selling in the company’s history. Their circulation was 6.5 million devices sold.
