Microsoft will quit working on the Xbox One Backward Compatibility catalog for Project Scarlett

The development of the Project Scarlett console requires Microsoft to reallocate resources. Therefore, the company announced that it is gradually phasing out work with the Xbox One backward compatibility catalog.

According to Microsoft, Xbox and Xbox 360 games compatible with Xbox One will no longer be added to the catalog. Instead of filling it, Microsoft will focus on working closely with Project Scarlett.

This news confirms the words of Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox. Yesterday, as part of Inside Xbox, he shared the company’s plans for Project Scarlett. The company’s goal is to make the games of the previous generation compatible with it. It is not known whether this means only digital playback of games or also support for original discs.

Note that there are now more than 600 games for Xbox and Xbox 360 in the backward compatibility catalog that can be played on Xbox One. The catalog has been used by more than half of the console owners for the entire time of its existence, writes Gamesindustry.biz .

Recall that the new console from Xbox should be released at the end of 2020. Announced support for 8K and 120 FPS resolution, as well as real-time retracing.
