Almost half of Epic Games Store customers do not use Steam
Currently, 85 million players are registered in the Epic Games Store. Epic Games told about this in the framework of GDC 2019.
The company conducted two user surveys, PCGamer writes. The first one took place in August 2018 among the audience of the Fortnite launcher. The second one was in January of this year among the customers of the already launched store. According to the results , it turned out:
- 40% of respondents do not have Steam installed.
- 68% of those who have Steam, use it irregularly. Many PC users from among the Epic Games Store customers prefer the Valve store to play on consoles. Not the least role in this was played by the multiplatform nature of the main blockbuster Epic Games — Fortnite.
- 55 thousand content creators are registered in the Epic Games Store, 41 million users support them on all platforms.
Epic Games’ desire to evaluate their customers’ commitment to the Valve store is understandable. Epic Games Store has already stolen large projects from Steam several times. Although, according to the head of the store, Steve Allison, Epic Games Store “doesn’t want to do this anymore.”
It is difficult to compare stores by audience coverage. There is no new data on the total number of registered Steam players. In January of this year, Valve named only MAU, which is 90 million people. Epic Games did not specify at what level of MAU the Epic Games Store has.
Recall that the official launch of the Epic Games Store took place in December last year.
