Nintendo reveals a new feature allowing the lending of digital games
Nintendo is set to introduce a groundbreaking feature for the Switch and its successor, the Switch 2, which will transform digital games into Virtual Game Cards.
Arriving in late April, this innovation will enable users to digitally manage and trade games between two consoles, as well as allow family group members under the same Nintendo Account to borrow games, mimicking the experience of physical game cards.
A specialized management screen will be available, serving as the hub for loading, ejecting, and controlling which Virtual Game Cards can be accessed on the console.
This addition supports the sharing of digital titles across two devices connected to a single Nintendo account.
To activate this feature initially, local communication is necessary. Post-setup, users can decide which games to pre-load and organize for access on both consoles.
Game lending is facilitated through a local wireless network, permitting family group members to enjoy the borrowed game on their personal device.
Each borrowed game can be used for up to two weeks. Afterward, the title will automatically return to the original owner.
Any save data is retained in the borrower's account, retrievable if the game is borrowed again or purchased outright.
