Media report: 99 people laid off at WB Games Montreal studio
Warner Bros. Discovery conducted mass layoffs at its Montreal game development studio, reports Radio-Canada. According to the publication, a total of 99 people left WB Games Montreal. Some of them were contractor testers from the outsourcing company Keywords Studios.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
As reported by Radio-Canada, on the morning of December 9, WB Games Montreal employees were suddenly invited to a video conference. During the meeting, management announced that the studio currently lacks enough projects to provide work for everyone, thus leading to the decision for layoffs.
Radio-Canada's sources revealed that later, those affected by the layoffs were called to another meeting, where they were offered two options—discuss employment opportunities elsewhere with a special consultant or place their name on a waiting list. WB Games Montreal promised to contact those on the list as soon as work becomes available for them, but warned that this is unlikely to happen before 2026.
It is claimed that there were no signs of impending layoffs in the studio as of the summer. One of the former WB Games Montreal employees anonymously told Radio-Canada that at that time, management assured staff that there were sufficient projects in the studio.
The layoffs may be related to the upcoming end of support for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League—WB Games Montreal assisted Rocksteady Studios with the game's development. Coincidentally, on December 9, it was announced that the fourth season would be the game's last, and starting January 2025, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will no longer receive new content.
Neither WB Games Montreal nor Keywords Studios commented on Radio-Canada's report.
