The American game development studio Heart Machine, known for titles such as Hyper Light Drifter, has announced layoffs within the company. This situation affects some of their team members, though specific roles impacted have not been detailed.
In a statement to GameDeveloper, Heart Machine assured that employees who are losing their jobs will receive severance packages and healthcare benefits for a number of months. The company also committed to acknowledging the contributions of these individuals in future project credits and maintaining any revenue sharing agreements previously in place.
Yiyi Zhang, who manages both community and public relations, conveyed to GameDeveloper that the forthcoming early access release of Hyper Light Breaker won’t be hindered by the recent staff changes. This game is an online rogue-lite with an open world and procedurally generated environments.
Zhang mentioned that a successful launch could potentially reinstate opportunities for those affected, as the game progresses through its Early Access phase. Hyper Light Breaker is anticipated to enter early access in the year 2025. In addition, Heart Machine’s other game, Possessor(s), reportedly remains on track.
