Surgent Studios faces an uncertain future as its gaming division has temporarily halted operations due to financial challenges, potentially affecting an unspecified number of employees who may lose their positions.

The company, which is also involved in television and film, shared this development through a social media post, indicating their staff has been cautioned about possible redundancies.

Originally starting as Silver Rain Studios in 2020, Surgent Studios, known for its roots with Assassin's Creed Origins and House of the Dragon actor Abubakar Salim, gained attention with its first project, Tales of Kenzera: Zau.

Though the game received positive reviews and was supported by Electronic Arts' EA Originals program, its sales have reportedly been underwhelming, leading Surgent Studios to cut "just over a dozen people" from its team last June, shortly after the game's launch.

Following the release, the studio's game development team embarked on a new concept, aiming for a product that is "darker, edgier, and more visceral" than its predecessor.

In their announcement, Surgent Studios revealed they are in search of a collaborator for this latest project and hinted at "a couple of exciting updates" regarding Zau in the future.
