Supercell is opening a new studio in North America. She will make games "for any platforms"

The Finnish company Supercell has decided to go beyond mobile. She announced that she is launching a new studio in North America. This division will deal with games, including for PC and consoles.

The studio will be led by Ryan Wener, who previously held the position of head of marketing at the company. Before Supercell, Wehner worked at Activision. There he was responsible for Destiny, Guitar Hero and DJ Hero.

Now the company is looking for other experienced gaming specialists who, together with Venus, will take over the new studio.

According to Venera, the studio’s games will not look like the usual Supercell projects:

“We are launching this team with a specific goal: to gather the best talents of North America and give them the opportunity to make games for any platform, not just for mobile devices. We want to develop ambitious games that gamers don’t expect to see from Supercell,” he explained.

It is assumed that the new studio will receive full creative independence. She will be able to develop both original projects and work on existing IP like Brawl Stars or Clash of Clans.

As for the specific location of the studio, Supercell decided to be flexible here too. She doesn’t mind developers working from her “old” office in San Francisco (opened in 2011). The company is also ready to build a fresh office elsewhere in North America or allow developers to work remotely.

Now Supercell has three foreign studios. In addition to San Francisco, the Finnish company also has offices in Seoul and Shanghai.

Supercell was founded in 2010, in Helsinki. Despite the fact that it is primarily known for mobile games, the company’s first project was made for the browser. It ‘s about Gunshine.net , which was closed in November 2012.

In 2020, Supercell earned $1.48 billion. Now the company has five projects whose revenue has exceeded a billion dollars since the release: Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Hay Day and Boom Beach. Moreover, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale together have earned over $10 billion to date. The total downloads of all the company’s titles are 5 billion, and their combined MAU is 250 million people.
