Media: "Sber" bought a domain games.ru for $1 million. This is one of the largest transactions in the .ru domain zone

Domain games.ru came under the management of the company “Sber”. The estimated value of the transaction is $1 million. As the Kommersant newspaper notes, this may be one of the most expensive purchases in the .ru domain zone in recent years.

Kommersant was the first to draw attention to the deal. The publication noticed a mention of her in the SPARK-Interfax database. There it was stated that the Sbera division of SberGames registered the domain on October 1 games.ru . Previously, this domain hosted a website with free online games, now it does not work.

It is assumed that “Sber” will open on games.ru marketplace. There will be sold both games developed by the company and its partners, as well as subscriptions to Sbera services.

The company itself did not comment on the purchase.

One of the anonymous sources of the publication estimated the deal at $ 1 million. Another source noted that the former owner games.ru there are rights to the domain as well game.ru — it’s not sold yet.

Domain investor Pavel Gross-Dneprov called the Sber deal one of the largest in the .ru zone in recent times. In his opinion, the high cost games.ru it is justified by the fact that this is a one-word domain that belongs to an entire industry. “To get such a domain means to claim leadership positions in the gaming market, domains of this level are not bought just like that,” Gross—Dneprov concluded

Another source of Kommersant stated that with the help of this transaction, the company “closed the gestalt for the entire industry.” They say that many companies were pricing the domain, but no one dared to buy it. The source sees logic in the fact that it was Sber that made the deal — the purchase fits into the company’s ecosystem development strategy.

Recall that “Sber” announced its entry into the video game market at the end of April. Then the company launched the SberGames gaming division, which was headed by Alice Chumachenko, founder and former CEO of Game Insight.
