Playco startup bought Goodboy Digital, creators of the PixiJS game engine
Playco became the owner of Goodboy Digital, the developer of the PixiJS HTML5 engine. With its help, the startup plans to create multiplayer instant games. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Playco’s interest in Goodboy is due to the desire to use their open-source PixiJS engine, which allows you to develop games that are comparable to native applications and are not inferior in quality to console projects.
Despite the fact that the studio is going under the control of Playco, the founders of Goodboy, Mat Groves, the creator of PixiJS, and John Denton, the creative partner, remain to develop projects further.
“The whole team is happy to join Playco. I would like to thank everyone who supported us, cooperated with us and helped us. There will be a lot of work and it would be impossible to cope alone,” Matt Groves reports in his blog.
Goodboy Digital has been around since 2018 and, in addition to writing the engine, have been adapting digital content for various business solutions. Their clients include Disney, BBC, Lego, Cartoon Network, Sega and Facebook.
Playco is a startup founded in 2011. Their mission is to develop HTML5 gaming and instant games. One of the company’s latest projects is TikTok, a Sway Stories game created in partnership with the American Tiktok House. At the moment, the team’s portfolio includes 9 projects – instant games for Snapchat, Facebook, Zoom and Line.
Last year, Playco raised $100 million at a valuation of $1 billion. Part of these funds just went to the purchase of Goodboy Digital.
