The beta version of Gruescript, a free tool for creating text quests, has been released

A new tool for creating retro text quests has appeared on the web. Gruescript allows you to develop HTML5 games that can be adapted, including for mobile. The project has an open source code and you can use it for free. The developer of the project Robin Johnson (Robin Johnson) has published its beta version on itch.io . Gruescript is distributed free of charge under the MIT license.

The goal of the developer was to release a convenient tool for creating text adventure games and adapt it to modern realities. Games created in Gruescript can be controlled by simply choosing from a list of suggested actions. This allows you to comfortably play them, including on smartphones.

The created games are available as HTML pages that can be shared on itch.io or other sites.

Johnson cites Bitsy and Puzzescript as sources of inspiration for his project. Only instead of small visual games, it is focused on interactive text adventures.
