ByteDance has announced global ambitions. She's going to compete with Nintendo and Blizzard

ByteDance decided to compete in video games not only with Chinese giants Tencent and NetEase, but also with international companies such as Nintendo and Activision Blizzard. She announced plans to become “a global gaming company that can remain popular for decades.”World of Warcraft

This was reported by the Chinese business portal SCMP with reference to the speech of the game director of ByteDance, Yan Shou.

Shu said that global expansion has long been at the heart of the company’s strategy. He noted that its Nuverse gaming division already receives 80% of gross revenue from abroad. However, ByteDance wants to achieve more.

According to Shu, the time has come for “a new generation of global gaming companies that will come from China.” He believes that ByteDance will be able to become one of such industrial giants and remain there for many years.

“We have heard many similar stories. Nintendo has been running for 130 years, and Blizzard has been running for 30 years. CounterStrike was launched in 1999, and Dota2 was released in 2013. A large number of people still love them,” Shu said.

Shu also pointed out that the share of companies from China in the global video game market is increasing annually. In the first five months of 2021, it was 22% and 23% in the US and Japanese markets, respectively, which is 5% and 4% more than in 2020.

Recall that ByteDance actively took up video games last year. In November, she launched Danjuan Games mobile store and opened Pixmain publishing house together with Nuverse, Ohayoo and PixDance studios. ByteDance also regularly makes deals with developers. Among the latter are investments in the Reworld platform and the purchase of Umi Game, C4games and Moonton studios.
