30 million monthly active users and 18 thousand games — what the Iranian mobile store Cafe Bazaar looks like

Source: Cafe BazaarThe turnover of the entire Iranian gaming market in 2020 amounted to $475 million (according to AdColony Inventory statistics);
- At the end of 2020, Cafe Bazaar had over 100 thousand applications, of which about 18 thousand were games.
- 20,000 developers collaborated with the platform, many of whom lived outside Iran (Cafe Bazaar does not disclose exact data on foreign developers in the report);
- last year, the audience of the store exceeded 45 million people — more than half of the population of Iran. The MAU of the platform was 30 million people, and the DAU was 6.6 million people;
- the lion’s share of Cafe Bazaar users play mobile games — 30 million people;
- According to the representative of the store, the audience of Iranian mobile gaming is becoming “more and more multi-layered in terms of age” every year. Smartphones are played by both young people and people aged 35-40 years. There is also a “more mature audience” in the country, but who is it and how many of them — Cafe Bazaar did not share;
- 30% of gamers have bought in-game items at least once;
- Separately, Cafe Bazaar pointed out that according to the calculations of the Iranian E-Commerce Development Center, last year Iranians spent $21.1 billion on online transactions (including the purchase of physical goods). How many of them were made in the store, and how many fell on the games — it is not reported. It is worth noting that in Iran it is impossible to shop on Google Play, so Cafe Bazaar is the only store in the country that allows foreign developers to earn money on the Iranian market;
- over the past year, Cafe Bazaar’s revenue from games increased by 30% compared to 2019. Up to what amount is unknown;
- The most profitable mobile categories are strategy, arcade and RPG;
- The most downloaded mobile categories are casual games, puzzles and action;
- Cafe Bazaar assumes that with the growth of the market, users will pay more and more attention to midcore projects. Strategies, action, racing and sports titles will also become more popular.
