The Dota 2 anime series briefly boosted the popularity of one of the game's characters

The animated series “DOTA: Dragon’s Blood” (DOTA: Dragon’s Blood) almost did not attract new players to Dota 2. However, the main character of the Netflix project has increased the popularity of one of the game’s characters in matches by several points.

“DOTA: Dragon’s Blood” received mixed reviews from critics, although the audience warmly received the series. Now the project, which was released on March 25, has 93% positive user reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes website.

The GameRant edition noted that after the release of the series, the Dragon Knight character was chosen more often in Dota 2 matches. According to the Dotabuff website, 9.2% of all players chose him on March 27 (today the rating dropped to 8.77%). For comparison, before the premiere of “Dragon’s Blood”, only 7.18% of users played for Dragon Knight.

Considering that there are 120 heroes in Dota 2, such an increase can be considered quite significant. In addition, Dragon Knight’s rating is still slightly higher than the average percentage of choice among all characters (8.3%).

“DOTA: Dragon’s Blood” tells about the adventures of the dragon knight Davion (Davion). Probably, it is because of the main character of the series that people have become more likely to play for Dragon Knight. At the same time, he still does not even enter the top 20 most popular Dota 2 heroes, and Pudge takes the first place with a selection frequency of 20.72%.

The series took the first place on Netflix in several countries, including Russia, Ukraine and Bulgaria. However, there was no surge of new players in Dota 2 after its release. Online on Steam may have increased after the premiere, but it still keeps within the average norm for the project.
