The peak online Baldur's Gate 3 on the day of release exceeded 70 thousand people

Yesterday Baldur’s Gate 3 went into early access and has already shown impressive results. During the day, the peak online project exceeded 70 thousand people, and Larian Studios even joked that they “broke” Steam.

According to the Steam Database, the maximum number of simultaneous players on the day of the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 was 73,980.

BG3 is on sale for the full price of $60. Given the number of simultaneous players, the project could already bring Larian several million dollars. However, it is important to understand that such a forecast does not take into account the Steam commission and regional prices (for example, in Russia the game is sold for 2 thousand rubles).

The developers themselves, it seems, were not ready for such an influx of players. “We have incredible sales, but this is only early access. We just wanted to gather a small community that we could work with. And what should we do now?” — jokingly wrote the head of the studio Sven Vincke (Swen Vincke).

Despite the initial success, Larian Studios has not been able to avoid the typical problems of early access games. Now there are a lot of bugs in Baldur’s Gate 3, and some of the quests turned out to be broken at all. Some players and journalists advise to wait for a full-fledged release, and Winke promises to fix all the mistakes based on community feedback.

The initial results of BG3 look particularly impressive compared to the company’s previous project. Divinity: Original Sin 2 went into early access on September 15, 2016, and on that day its peak online barely reached 2 thousand. At the same time, after the release, which took place on September 14, 2017, the maximum online increased to 93 thousand.
